How To: Make Hershey's Cookies 'n' Creme Bars

Make Hershey's Cookies 'n' Creme Bars

Cookies 'n' Creme is one of Hershey's most popular candy bars, right behind their classic milk chocolate bar, Kit Kat, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

We've got a whole lotta love for this creamy, crunchy creation. So much love, in fact, that we decided to replicate this super snack in the comfort of our home. And we were thrilled to discover that it requires only two ingredients! All you need are some Oreos or Joe-Joe's (or any chocolate wafer cookie), and white chocolate chips.

Step 1: Prepare the Goods

Snag that bag of white chocolate chips and those chocolate sandwich cookies with the sweet cream filling—we're about to get messy.

What You Need:

  • two 12-oz. bags of white chocolate chips
  • one 16-oz. bag of cookies
  • rolling pin or meat tenderizer
  • ziplock bag (optional)
  • deep pot
  • wooden mixing spoon
  • cookie sheet (for thinner bars) or baking dish (for thicker ones), lined with foil or parchment

Step 2: Crunch Those Cookies

Using your rolling pin or meat tenderizer, put the cookies on a cutting board (you don't want to ruin your counter) and smash the heck out of them. Work out all those aggressions (but try to leave some larger chunks so that they stay distinct in the melted chocolate).

If you feel like keeping your work space a bit cleaner (if not your psyche), you can use a plastic bag for this step. Just give it a good shake every now and then throughout the smashing process to make sure all the cookies are getting crushed.

Step 3: Melt Your White Chocolate

Melt your white chocolate on the stove top, gently stirring until smooth.

Step 4: Combine Ingredients

Mix in the crunched cookies until they are all coated with the chocolate. If you want your bars to be more pristinely white and less gray, simply use fewer cookies and mix more gently. If you want more crunch and don't care as much if your bars look a bit like tasty concrete, add more cookies and stir away, we say!

Step 5: Pour into Prepared Pan

Pour the ingredients into your foil- or parchment-lined cookie sheet or dish, and smooth the top with the back of your spoon to get it more or less level. A few bumps here and there are fine, but you want it to freeze evenly.

Step 6: Freeze Your Candy

Place the cookie sheet or dish into the freezer and allow it to set for at least two hours.

Step 7: Cut the Bars

Remove your enormous chocolate/cookie bar from the freezer and allow it to sit at room temperature for 5 minutes. Dip the blade of a sharp knife in hot water and slice your large block of cookies 'n' creme goodness into smaller bars.

Eat a few bars, store a few in the fridge to eat at your leisure... or have your future-self thank you by freezing some for later.
