Luckily, you can skip all that hassle without skipping the herb butter thanks to a little ice cubes hack. Herb butter ice cubes can sit in your freezer for months, just waiting to help you and your steak out. And they're great for more than just steak!
Add some fresh herbs to some soft butter, and mix them up. You can use whichever herbs you like, and you can also throw in some minced garlic or lemon zest, if you'd like. I always add sea salt and pepper as well.
Scoop your butter mixture into an empty ice cube tray (preferably silicone, if you have one), and wrap it with plastic wrap or seal it in a freezer bag to avoid other flavors leaching into your beautiful butter cubes. Place the butter-filled ice cube tray in the freezer, where it will last for months and be ready to go in an instant.
When the time comes to give your beef an instant flavor boost, pull a butter ice cube out of the freezer and toss it on your steak.
If you have a silicone ice cube tray, you can pop the cube right out. If you have a traditional ice cube tray, you may need to run a little warm water on the underside of the tray first. Either way, you can put the rest of the butter cubes back in the freezer for use at a later time (you can't do that with a compound butter log!).
In addition to adding flavor to your steak, these butter cubes act as instant seasoning for finishing off pastas and risotto. You can also toss them on top of some steamed or grilled veggies or seafood to give a little extra zing. And don't even get me started on what a flavored butter cube can do to your boring old popcorn!
